Hey Ohana,
One of the things that we admire most about Disney World is how dedicated they are when it comes to honoring the United States in a variety of ways in their parks. From showcasing our nation’s great History, to honoring those who serve to protect it, we always feel a sense of patriotism while in the parks.
From the moment visitors step into a Disney theme park, they are transported into a world where magic and imagination blend seamlessly with elements of American history, culture, and values. Disney, known for its meticulous attention to detail and immersive storytelling, pays homage to America in various ways across its parks, creating experiences that resonate with both patriotism and nostalgia.
One of the first encounters guests have with America at Disney parks is through Main Street, U.S.A. Designed to evoke a turn-of-the-century small-town America, complete with Victorian architecture, horse-drawn carriages, and bustling shops, Main Street, U.S.A. serves as a nostalgic tribute to simpler times. This meticulously crafted street reflects Walt Disney's own childhood memories and his vision of a quintessential American town.
While many visitors to the Magic Kingdom may be “distracted” by the castle at the end of Main Street (and ok…rightfully so it is beautiful) we can’t stress enough how much you really should take the time to enjoy the detail of Main St, USA itself. We view it as the first “land” of the park and can spend hours taking in all the secrets and details it has to offer.
Beginning once you pass under the train station, one of the first things we are met with is the American flag soaring majestically above Main Street. If you haven’t ever had the opportunity to witness the flag lowering ceremony which takes place daily, be sure to take a few minutes to participate on your next visit!
The sense of American nostalgia doesn’t end on Main St. though as Disney ensures you have plenty of opportunities to honor American History and heroes throughout its various lands and attractions. Just a few of our favorite spots to experience some American History include: Carousel of Progress and Hall of Presidents (Ok really all Liberty Square) in Magic Kingdom, The American Adventure in EPCOT (more on that in a second), and the overall environment and feel of Hollywood’s golden age in Hollywood Studios. These attractions blend education with entertainment, offering guests a deeper appreciation for the individuals who have led the nation forward and the cultural aspects that have defined our country.
(One of our favorite ways to "feel" like we're back in America's past is strolling through Liberty Square - bonus points if you can get there before anyone else!)
(Who can say no to a good ole fashioned American meal at Liberty Tree Tavern?)
While, there are a number of individual attractions that we could jump into, there is one that really checks off all the boxes when it comes to honoring the USA. At Epcot's American Adventure Pavilion, guests embark on a journey through the annals of American history. The centerpiece of this pavilion is the American Adventure attraction, a multimedia extravaganza that showcases pivotal moments in American history through animatronics, film, and music. From the Revolutionary War to the civil rights movement, the attraction celebrates the ideals and achievements that have shaped the nation. However, that is not all this area has to offer. With a mini museum full of American relics in the lobby, to the soaring Voices of Liberty showcasing national anthems and historical songs, if you’re in the mood to get your patriotic juices going, this is the place!
Walt Disney himself loved history and is one of the main reasons it is so prevalent in the parks. However, he also had a great appreciation for cultural diversity and the role it has played in the creation of our “melting pot” culture. In celebrating America, Disney also recognizes its rich cultural diversity. Across its parks, guests can experience a tapestry of American cultures through regional cuisine, music, and performances. Whether it's the spirited rhythms of New Orleans Square (yes Disneyland does this as well lol) or the culinary delights of the American Southwest, Disney showcases the breadth and depth of the American experience.
While everything we’ve mentioned so far can be experienced every day of the year, Disney also hosts special events to celebrate American patriotism. None more iconic than their Fourth of July festivities, highlighted by a spectacular fireworks display, that many put at the top of their best firework shows lists! In the past they have also invited various military organizations and groups to participate in parades down Main St!
Disney also demonstrates its commitment to America by honoring those who serve in the military. During the flag retreat ceremony we mentioned earlier, Disney selects a veteran of the day to participate. The company offers discounts and special packages for military personnel and veterans, making it easier for them to experience the magic of Disney with their families. Additionally, Disney participates in initiatives like the Veterans Institute and their Heroes Work Here program, which helps former military members transition into civilian careers, underscoring its dedication to supporting those who have sacrificed for the nation.

Disney's theme parks serve not only as places of fantasy and adventure but also as living tributes to America. Through meticulous attention to detail, immersive storytelling, and a deep reverence for American history and values, Disney creates experiences that resonate with guests of all ages. Whether it's strolling down Main Street, U.S.A., reliving pivotal moments in American history, or celebrating the diversity of American culture, Disney's dedication to honoring America shines through in every aspect of its parks. As guests leave the parks with memories of magic and inspiration, they also carry with them a deeper appreciation for the timeless spirit that defines the heart of America.
For those you interested in hearing more about some of the things we mentioned here as well as some ideas of how we’d love to see even more patriotism in the parks, be sure to go back and catch episode 2 of the Married to A Disney Addict podcast “How Disney Honors America”!
Thanks for reading and as always…See Ya Real Soon!
(Walt LOVED History and his favorite president was Lincoln! Our son, Lincoln, agrees lol. If you're looking for more great History in the parks be sure to check out One Man's Dream in Hollywood Studios)
